After the BigSur installation on macbook, LibreOffice wouldn't open. I just updated to Libreoffice 7.0.3 and now, it runs. I'm on MacBook Air (Early-2015) 1. View Entire Discussion (8 Comments) More posts from the libreoffice community.

  1. Creating a Better Office Product for Mac Users Since 2018 when WPS Office launched the first version of the WPS office in Apple App store, the app has come a long way from there. And now, with so much support from people all around the world, WPS office featured Frist under the category of business in 14 countries' app stores.
  2. The last OpenOffice version supporting Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is OpenOffice 4.0.1. Hardware Requirements CPU: Intel Processor.
  3. 7.0.5 This version is slightly older and does not have the latest features, but it has been tested for longer. For business deployments, we strongly recommend support from certified partners which also offer long-term support versions of LibreOffice. LibreOffice 7.0.5 release notes.
  4. LibreOffice was reviewed within my company as a possible replacement to Office 365 (namely the desktop applications Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Whereas LibreOffice is an excellent program, ranking well above applications like Google Docs, it still isn't exactly a pop-in replacement for Microsoft Office.

Some Apache OpenOffice users are reporting that version 4.1.8 is crashing on Apple macOS 11.0 (aka “Big Sur” or 10.16) when opening OOXML documents – like .docx and .xlsx. The error message is:

One solution is to install LibreOffice, a more actively developed successor project. (OpenOffice’s last major release – 4.1 – was back in 2014.)
